brinkworthresiz

Having devoted most of her spare time to the care of animals, Julie T Brinkworth opens her heart in this poignant memoir spanning the years of rescuing stray cats.

Julie’s recollections of each feline rescue; how and where she caught them, the veterinary treatment that was needed, the hours of love and attention required to tame them, along with the outcome of her care for these cats makes for fascinating reading. Every stray lived the life of luxury whilst in the care of Julie, and her dedication to their welfare continued long after good homes were found for them.

But the happiness of rescuing these cats is tinged with sadness for Julie. Her much-loved dog, Maurica, rescued from Mauritius and re-homed in the UK, went missing and due to bureaucracy was sent to a re-homing centre instead of back to Julie.

So now she is telling her story in the hope that somebody out there knows where her Maurica is so that she can visit her.

About the Author

Julie T. Brinkworth lives in Wales in the United Kingdom, and is of Welsh / Italian origin.  Being a dedicated lover of cats, she spent ten years of her life rescuing mostly feral cats that were found living uncared for in colonies around her hometown.

Julie has travelled widely including a holiday to Johannesburg and Durban in South Africa at the age of twenty, which prompted her decision to emigrate there, a sojourn that lasted for one and a half years.  Racism was still strong at that time and it was her distaste for this that brought her back to her hometown of Neath, South Wales, UK.  She returned to Cape Town to live for six months in 1994 and also worked in London for a short period.  Julie has a background in the computer field, transferring to a new profession of teaching ICT in 1998.  After a short period of college lecturing, she chose to work as a supply secondary school teacher, which included a period teaching in a school in Jersey.  Today she is happy to work in schools in or near her own hometown.

Following her travels to the parts of the world that she wished to see, she decided to fulfil a lifelong ambition to write a book; one that would detail all the adventures and emotional ups and downs she endured while rescuing, taming, and rehoming homeless cats over a ten-year period.  This is that book, which is dedicated to her dearly beloved and departed kitten Snowwhite.  At long last she now has the time to enjoy the company of her own house cats and the remaining rescued cats from her cat rescuing days.
